Aunt Melissa (now Aunt M) and cousins Allison and Mikey came down from Baltimore to spend the 4th of July week with us! Half of the time was spent in Savannah with Gram and Gramps and the second half we spent in Sumter. The boys had a great time playing with their cousins and we can't wait to see them again!
First morning in Savannah
Forsyth Park
We decided to spend some time at Forsyth Park, a beautiful park located in downtown Savannah. The boys enjoyed running under the Spanish Moss covered trees, spending time at the playground, and eating ice-cream.
Independence Day
We spent most of our time by the pool but did run to the local park to play and watch Brett and Mikey wrestle.
We had lunch at the Pirate's House in downtown Savannah. It is supposedly one of the most haunted places in America and the waiter guaranteed me that I'd see ghosts in our photos once uploading them to my computer. I took tons of pictures (mostly of Andrew eating - hoping to see a ghost in the background) and didn't see anything!
TIMBER!!!
We had a huge storm blow through the other night. At one point I even jokingly looked out my window and exclaimed, "Hurricane!" because outside was just gray. The wind was so fierce and the rain so powerful that I swear I couldn't see more than a few dozen meters in front of me. Once the storm had passed (For you Seattlites, storms out here are nothing like back home. They pass anywhere from ten minutes to an hour after they start and drop about as much rain as Seattle gets in a week.) Melissa and I went outside to look at our BBQ grill which had been thrown about a dozen feet when she exclaimed, "DEBRA LOOK!!!" and pointed in the direction of her car. A huge tree had been uprooted and toppled over in our yard. We ran over to survey the damaged and found this:
The tree had literally missed her rental car by inches!
Here are a few pictures of our uprooted tree.
Melissa and I are convinced that a mini tornado blew through our backyard. Our 100+ pound bbq grill had been thrown into the air, leaving no track marks or damage to our landscaping and the boys' plastic slide and picnic table were left untouched and our tree didn't snap but was uprooted. Crazy!
Happy 15th Birthday Mikey!
Mikey is celebrating his birthday at the end of the month but since he was in town, we decided to celebrate a few weeks early and threw him a mini-party at our house.
